After the pain and sorrow of experiencing an ectopic pregnancy and surgery to remove the affected Fallopian tube, we were unsure we would ever become pregnant again, especially at my age. The surgeon operating on me informed us the Fallopian tube could have been saved only if a diagnosis had been made in a timely manner, and that they believed the only sure way to prevent another ectopic pregnancy would be through in vitro fertilization. We became determined to find a better alternative to treat my infertility which would help carry the next pregnancy successfully. The wonderful alternative we discovered was the infertility program at FertilityCare Toronto.At the introductory session offered at FertilityCare Toronto, we learned the Creighton Model FertilityCare method had 40 years of research behind it and was headed by Dr Hilgers, an obstetrician and gynecologist. The approach was very scientific and innovative and had specific information on the causes of ectopic pregnancy. Impressed by this information, we joined the program and worked with a practitioner who helped us explore and chart each menstrual cycle. From this chart, FertilityCare medical doctors would be able to determine whether the length of the menstrual cycle would be appropriate for a pregnancy to be carried full term. Also, the doctors could pinpoint the days that blood tests should be taken to diagnose and treat any infertility problem.

Working with the doctors was a joy. We were amazed at the time taken to discuss my medical background and analyze my chart. I had previously never met a doctor who spent more than 10 minutes with me, at any one time, in my whole life. The FertilityCare Toronto doctors diagnosed and treated underlying medical problems I didn’t know I was experiencing, including glucose intolerance, hormonal imbalance and high stress. Once these underlying medical problems were successfully treated, a positive pregnancy test confirmed I had become pregnant on the first try!

Throughout the pregnancy, I received superlative and proactive care. During an ultrasound visit at about 8 weeks of pregnancy, I was able to see that our baby was swimming inside the uterus comfortably. When the ultrasound technician turned up the volume to let us hear the heart beat, we were overjoyed. At that moment we knew that the little one was doing well and felt that we would be able to hold this baby in our arms in due time. Before leaving the office, we received an ultrasound copy of our baby. Until then, we had not truly understood the meaning of love at first sight.

With the dedication of the staff at FertilityCare Toronto, we are now the proud parents of a little girl. We would not have been able to conceive without the help of the staff and methods of FertilityCare Toronto. We hope there will be many more babies to come with the continuous good work of this fertility centre!
