Youth Program

The program we have developed has more than one component. We have a program for grade 8, 9–10 and 11–12.  It is called Sex and Sexuality; What the World Says and What Our Faith Teaches.

We begin with a description of the world’s view of sexuality and the consequences of living according to that view including: infatuation, lack of trust, loneliness, depression, isolation, low self esteem, spiritual emptiness, lowering of career and goals, single parenthood, life-long commitment, abortion.  We have a detailed explanation of these including contraception, particularly BCP, its alternate forms and IUD.  We do spend quite a bit of time dispelling the myths about these forms and their long-term effects on fertility, STDs and the effectiveness of condoms.

The second part covers what our faith teaches us about sexuality and the benefits of living according to those teachings. This list includes: true love, committed relationships, achievement of career and goals, happiness, carefree, self confidence, spiritual fullness, good health (fertility appreciation), value of children, trust.

In each presentation we flesh out the parts a little differently depending on the age group. For the older students we include a section on family planning and for the younger more about leadership, chastity and abstinence. In each we speak about natural law and move into the church’s teaching as it naturally progresses from there.

These interactive presentations were originally designed for two class periods given on two separate days but can be tailored to suit any number of situations.

Please feel free to call the Marguerite Bourgeoys Family Centre for more information or to book a presentation.
