In the past, infertility has been seen as a symptom rather than a disease. There is always an underlying cause, and treating the underlying cause was more effective than treating the infertility. In 1978, however, IVF caused a shift in treatment. The infertility began to be treated, rather than its cause, even though the cause can have an impact both on short and long term health, as well as causing infertility. Using IVF to treat infertility is putting a Band-Aid on the disease which caused the infertility.

NaPro Technology uses a woman’s natural biomarkers to help diagnose the underlying cause of her infertility. Using markers such as her mucus patterns and hormone levels can help practitioners determine what is causing her to have difficulty achieving pregnancy, and can also be used by the couple to find out when and if she is fertile. Using the information, the best treatment can be found for the underlying cause of the infertility, rather than simply putting a Band-Aid on the problem.

Women who are undergoing IVF are frequently taking drugs to suppress their cycles before taking others to stimulate the egg creation process to a massive degree. Then they must endure a series of extremely invasive procedures to harvest and then implant the eggs. The side effects of these drugs can be extremely uncomfortable, and the procedures make a woman feel distant and out of control of her own body. NaPro technology offers an alternative to these women. The system helps them, without disrupting their own natural cycles, and without the side effects.

IVF costs a lot. When the drugs are added to the costs of the medical procedures, a couple can spend tens of thousands of dollars per cycle, a cost which is frequently not covered by any insurance companies and, in Canada, not covered by healthcare, in most provinces. NaPro Technology offers a much cheaper alternative, which decreases some of the stresses felt by a couple suffering from infertility.

By treating the underlying cause of infertility, rather than having the strict goal of achieving pregnancy, NaPro technology becomes a more effective means of doing both. It is more effective than IVF at achieving pregnancy, and also helps a woman suffering with it to have better short and long term health. The emotions faced by those suffering from infertility are in constant flux. There is the excitement and hope as new treatments are started, as well as the fresh start at the beginning of each new cycle, and the incredible low when the cycle does not end in pregnancy. No. The past century has witnessed tremendous progress in many areas, including the field of Natural Family Planning.  The old Calendar Rhythm Method of the 1930′s is obsolete in the face of modern medical research.  Unfortunately, the medical community and the general population have had limited opportunity to learn of these advances.

Promotion of methods of hormonal contraception by the pharmaceutical industry has overshadowed the field of family planning.  Doctors in training receive practically no education in the field of modern Natural Family Planning.  To gain this knowledge physicians must attend specialized medical education programs that are not yet widely available

Science has determined that the ovaries are non-sectarian!  It is true, however, that the major impetus for research and development of the system has been the encouragement of the Catholic Church.  The word catholic itself means universal, and it is true that this system is universal, and can be utilized by every woman in the world for self-knowledge, achieving and/or avoiding pregnancy, and for medical applications.

Teenagers & Single Women

Every young woman deserves to know how her reproductive system functions.  This understanding increases her ability to appreciate and care for her fertility.  Teenagers are often put on ‘the pill’ as a remedy for menstrual cramps and ovarian cysts.  This off-label use can only mask the problem and create additional problems.  NaProTechnology identifies underlying causes and treats them cooperatively.

Engaged & Married Couples

The Creighton Model System is an excellent means of natural birth regulation.  When used to avoid pregnancy, the use-effectiveness is 96.8%.  When used to achieve pregnancy the effectiveness is 76% in the very 1st cycle of use and 98% by the 6th cycle.

In addition, the development of SPICE* techniques improves couple relations and contributes to a very low divorce rate.  Engaged couples should attend class 6 months prior to the wedding if the woman has not already done so.

The primary goal of the CEIBA study is to assess the effectiveness of the CrM to avoid pregnancy with newer statistical methods, and in the context of motivations, intentions and behaviors of the participating couples during its use. The study is observational in nature and does not involve any blood tests or medications. New users of the CrM at participating FertilityCare Centers throughout Canada and United States will be offered the opportunity to participate in this study.

Participants in the study will receive updates about the study and personalized feedback on their own observations of fertility biomarkers. This study will yield valuable insight into the effectiveness of CrM, which will be helpful for all the couples using the system and will provide important information to clinicians regarding its effectiveness.
